Research Fellow in the Department of Medicine, Infectious Diseases Division, of the Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, USA, in 2001-2002 for 12 months. Visiting Scientist in the Imperial College Medical School of London several times (1996-1999), for a total of 9 months. 2004 Research Prize of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI).
Author of 44 full papers on peer-reviewed International journals with impact factor.
Editorial Board Member of World Journal of Gastroenterology (2003-2007) and Reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals with impact factor, including Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Cardiology, Journal of Viral Hepatitis, European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Clinical Microbiology & Infection. Areas of scientific activity: management of infective endocarditis and cardiovascular infections; haemostasis, thrombosis and inflammation in hepatic and cardiovascular disorders and in heart transplant; pathogenesis and treatment of hepatitis and its complications; virology and immunology of chronic viral hepatitis.
