Dr. Andrea Rother is currently an Associate Professor in the Centre for Environmental and Occupational Health in the School of Public Health and Family Medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT), Cape Town, South Africa. Her teaching and research in environmental health focuses on risk communication, risk perceptions, and risk management with a focus on chemicals and pesticides. She convenes a post graduate diploma in pesticide risk management which has a large e-learning component for building the capacity of professionals in Low and Middle Income Countries. Prof Rother was involved in developing the comprehensibility testing methodology for the ILO to assess the effectiveness of the Globally Harmonized System of the Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) and she is an expert advisor on several United Nation expert groups. In 2010 she won UCT’s Vice-Chancellor’s Social Responsiveness award for her community based research and interventions.
