Ignazio Olivieri is Director of the Rheumatology Department of Luciana, San Carlo Hospital of Potenza and Madonna delle Grazie Hospital of Matera, Italy. He gained his medical degree in 1978 from the University of Pisa Medical School and in 1983 became a certified specialist in Rheumatology. Following years of research on seronegative spondyloarthropathy and Behçet’s disease at the Rheumatic Disease Unit at the University of Pisa followed by the Rheumatic Disease Unit, Policlinico S.Orsola-Malpighi in Bologna, Dr. Olivieri took his current position as Consultant Rheumatologist in 1998. He is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, the Assessment in Ankylosing Spondylitis (ASAS) group and the Group on Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA) study group. In addition, he is on the editorial board on of The Journal of Rheumatology and the annual supplement on Behçet’s Disease and Familial Mediterranean Fever published in Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology. Dr. Olivieri is widely published having authored over 280 articles in peer-reviewed publications.
