Dr. Michal Mego has been working as an Associate professor at the 2nd Department of Medical Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, National Cancer Institute, Bratislava, Slovakia since 2011 and as a Head of Translational Research Unit, National Cancer Institute, Bratislava since 2010. He worked as a Teaching Assistant, Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, Bratislava from 2007 till 2011, as a Fellow at the National Cancer Institute, Bratislava from 2001 till 2007 and as a Student Assistant at the Cancer Research Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava under supervision of Dr. Zajac Vladimir, Ph.D. from 1995 till 2001. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center from 2008 till 2009. Dr. Mego studied at the Vienna School of Clinical Research and Vienna Medical University from 2004 till 2007 and he graduated the studies with Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Research in 2007. He was awarded with ESMO TRU visit, Vall d´Hebron, Barcelona, Spain in 2007. He has been board-certified in Medical Oncology, Slovak Medical University in 2006 and he has gained the European Certificate in Medical Oncology in 2005 (ESMO Examination). He is a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Oncology and his Thesis was "Probiotics in Oncology" Cancer Research Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, (2001-2006). Dr. Mego has attended the 8th FESC-AACR-ASCO Workshop, "Methods in clinical cancer research" Switzerland in 2006. He graduated the School of Medicine, Comenius University in Bratislava in 2001. Dr. Mego was awarded by Young investigator travel grant Award (2nd place) - 9th International symposium, Minimal Residual Cancer, September 25-27, Paris France (2013), Prize of the Minister of Education of Slovakia for Science and Technology for 2011, AACR Translational Research Scholar-in-Training Award in 2009, the Best Poster Award, 7th International symposium, Minimal Residual Cancer, September 16-18, 2009, Athens, Greece in 2009, UICC American Cancer Society International Fellowship for Beginning Investigators, ACSBI Award ACS /08/ 006 in 2008 and ESMO Best Exam Award in 2006. He is member of editorial boards of journals Onkologia, Klinicka Onkologia, World journal of Clinical Cases. Dr.Mego is an author of patent (PCT/US2011/028049) for novel method for detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood. Two other patents (new Metod for in vivo detection of CTCs, New Metod fortreatment of osteoporosis) are pending. He is a first author or co-author of more than 150 articles including more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in current content (CC) database, and is very active speaker.
