Dr. Jay Kalra is a Professor of Pathology in the University of Saskatchewan and has served as Head of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Saskatoon Health Region. Mandana Vahabi, RN, MHSC, PhD is an Associate Professor at Ryerson University, Faculty of Community Services, Daphne Cockwell school of Nursing. Her research program focuses on immigrant health, particularly women’s health, socio-cultural determinants of health, health literacy and access to primary and secondary health care services. Her research approaches include quantitative, multi-method and community based research. Dr. Vahabi has extensive experience in population and community based assessment, planning and evaluation. In her work with immigrant population she has also been involved in the design, implementation and evaluation of culturally sensitive and appropriate health promotion interventions. She previously worked as a policy consultant at the Ministry of Health Long Term Care, Population Health Policy & Planning and Women’s Health Branch, and as senior epidemiologist/ health planner at the Toronto District Health Council (TDHC) where she was involved in managing various system level projects such as "Heath System Monitoring and Evaluation", and "Toronto Small Planning Areas: A Population-Based Approach to constructing New Health Planning Areas in the City".

Dr. Tamer Edirne was born in Turkey and returned there after he has been living in Germany for eight years. He graduated from Gazi Medical School in 1991. He worked in several primary care institutions as a primary care physician from 1991 to 1996, mostly in rural regions. He then completed a Family Medicine Residency program at the İzmir Research and Education Hospital. In 2001, Dr. Edirne started to work in a small town as a family physician where he gained valuable experience at different positions in primary care services for five years. In 2005, he began his career as an academic at the University of Yuzuncu Yil. Here, he published most of the results of his researches on various topics in primary care in rural and remote conditions. Currently, Dr. de Lucia is researcher at Center for Translational Medicine, Temple University, Philadelphia under the mentorship of Dr. W.J. Koch. In 2015 Dr. de Lucia took degree with excellence in Geriatrics at the University of Naples "Federico II". Dr. de Lucia won the American Heart Association's award with the abstract presentation "GRK2 regulates a2A-AR Function and Catecholamine Release in Human Adrenal Chromaffin Cells” in AHA Scientific Sessions 2012 and won the University of Naples “Federico II” award called “PROGRAMMA STAR, LINEA 2, MOBILITÀ GIOVANI RICERCATORI 2013”. Dr.de Lucia is member of several scientific societies such as the American Heart Association (AHA) and Italian Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics. His work is based around heart failure and the molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of signaling through cardiovascular adrenergic receptors, the study of Gprotein coupled receptor function and signaling, and heart failure gene therapy. Dr. de Lucia is author of several research articles for journals with impact factor, chapters of books and abstracts for international conferences.

Dr. Miller is the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Centennial Endowed Chair in Regional Health Services in the Department of Family Medicine at Scott & White Healthcare and the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. Dr. Miller is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the School of Rural Public Health and teaches health care financial management. In 2007, he received his PhD in Health Services and Policy from the University of Iowa’s College of Public Health. Raymond R. Hyatt, Ph.D., SM, is a medical sociologist with appointments as Associate Professor in Public Health and Family Medicine in the School of Medicine and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. He is a scientific member of the Tufts University Health and Medical IRB and holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Brown University and an S.M. in Mathematics from MIT. Dr. Hyatt’s research is focused on the effects of environment on health behavior, particularly diet and physical activity. He has published extensively in the area of childhood obesity and has recently completed a study of vitamin D supplementation for children in the Boston area. Prior to joining the faculty at Tufts, Dr. Hyatt directed research projects at Abt Associates, Inc. in Cambridge, MA funded by various federal and state agencies. Dr. Hyatt is a frequent presenter at national conferences on health and behavioral medicine.

Dr. Hyatt’s current research is focused on the effects of context and environment on adolescent and childhood health behavior. Within this research focus, Dr. Hyatt is developing an index of collective stress within neighborhoods with rapidly changing demographics that combines Census Bureau survey data with primary qualitative data. Dr. Hyatt recently completed a study with colleagues at Tufts School of Nutrition and Boston University examining vitamin D supplementation for children in the Boston area. For a related project, Dr. Hyatt trained a team of teen-educators from immigrant families in Somerville to assist with survey data collection and oversees the conceptual modeling of health risk behavior among adolescents and young adults. Dr. Hyatt is the PI for a research project to assess the potential for increasing the civic engagement of elders using partnerships between Tufts undergraduates and senior citizens in the surrounding communities. The outcomes for that study include mechanisms for reducing health risk behavior in both populations. Dr. Hyatt has published extensively on nutrition and physical activity interventions and mentors graduate students in public health and nutrition. He is a frequent presenter at national conferences on public health and behavioral medicine.

 Zanchetta teaches community health nursing. She uses diverse qualitative methods of research in her studies in Brazil and Canada with populations who speak English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Mentoring students in research is one of her major activity responding their requests for an opportunity to “learning by doing” with her. She mentored two teams of students who successfully earned the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada-Students for Development Grant (2008; 2011) for social development internships in Brazil. She also collaborates with Ontario Network of French-speaking health and social professionals. Alice Kvale is educated as a physiotherapist in Bergen, Norway in 1980. She took a Master of Science degree in neurological physiotherapy at Northeastern University, Boston, USA, in 1985. At Haukeland University Hospital, Bergen, she worked for many years in a multidisciplinary Pain Clinic, and later in a Spine Clinic. She got a Doctoral fellowship fulltime at the University of Bergen (UiB) from 1997-2000, and part time from 2001-2003, and defended her doctoral thesis in 2003. Since then she has had a permanent fulltime position as an associate professor and leader of two Master studies, including Manual Therapy, at the Physiotherapy Research Group, Department of Public Health and Primary Health Care, at UiB. She lectures and supervises PhD- and MSc students in topics related to her main interest.She has published 28 original research articles in peer reviewed journals, and 6 book chapters, and presented her work in many national and international conferences.

Dr. Côté earned a B.A. in political science and an M.B.A. from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and a Ph.D. in management science from Texas A&M University. Prior to joining the faculty at the Texas A&M Health Science Center, he was on the faculty at the University of Colorado Denver, the University of Florida, and Trinity University, San Antonio. His research findings have been published in Decision Sciences, the European Journal of Operational Research, Health Care Management Science, and Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, among others. In addition, his research has received awards from the Decision Sciences Institute and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Professor Côté has obtained extramural funding from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Education and Research Foundation of the American Production and Inventory Control Society. He has also consulted for a variety of health care organizations including CIGNA, the Texas Transplant Institute at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital, and Shands Jacksonville. Professor Côté recently served as an investigator for a national nursing home pay-for-performance demonstration project funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service and a Department of Veterans Affairs project examining the relationship between inpatient census and nurse staffing.

After completing a Bachelor of Nursing and a Grad Cert in Critical Care at Monash University, Lee worked in Intensive Care Units for approximately 6 years in various roles such as Clinical Nurse Specialist, Associate Unit Manager and Critical Care Educator. Her initial Master’s thesis also related to critical care nursing. Lee then moved into education in the tertiary sector, first as a critical care educator in affiliation with a hospital and then fulltime as a lecturer at Monash University Department of Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice. I am a Sri Lankan and had my education in Kandy, Sri Lanka. My postgraduate training was obtained in the UK. In 2009 I moved to Australia. Currently I am working as a Clinician and an academic in Clinical Pharmacology and General Medicine at the University of Newcastle, Australia. I am an experienced teacher and a clinician from a developing middle income country and a high income developed country, with special interests in ‘quality health care’ which includes rational use of medicines and effective communication. Biography :

Thomas Frese studied medicine at the University Halle-Wittenberg (2000 - 2007). During his studies the high interest towards general practice and family medicine increased. Since 2007 he worked as a general practice trainee at different disciplines of medicine. Thomas Frese works part-time at the department of primary care of the Leipzig Medical School (2008). He defended his doctoral thesis – an investigation towards melatonin-insulin interactions in rats – at the Institute of Anatomy (University Halle-Wittenberg) in 2009. Thomas Frese is engaged in teaching medical students, tutoring doctoral candidates and conducting research projects in a postdoctoral position. The results of his research are published in international journals.

The special areas of interest are: reasons for encounter in general practice (frequencies, following procedures and underlying conditions), geriatric assessments (contents, guidelines and effectiveness) as well as the epidemiology and the treatment of diabetes mellitus in general practice.

Biography :

Dr. Nada Yasein is an associate professor in the family medicine department in the faculty of medicine in Jordan University and a consultant family physician in Jordan University Hospital since 2002. She teaches and supervises the clinical training of the postgraduate candidates and undergraduate students in the 4th and 5th medical years. She runs a busy family practice clinic 5 times a week. In the research field, she has published 16 papers since 2005 until now, and several other studies are still ongoing. Research interests include: cardio-metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular risk, obesity and exercise, communication skills and patient centered medicine. Dr. Nada has attended more than 35 medical conferences, in some of them she was a speaker. And she was an active member in 17 workshops. She is a member in a number of committees in the faculty of medicine and in the hospital. Recently, she has started organizing the Jordan Coalition to Combat Cardio Metabolic Syndrome.

Lepsa Zoric graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Pristina in 1989. Specialist in Ophthalmology since 1994. Doctorate “Antioxidant status in aqueous humor, lens and serum of patients with senile cataract’’. Fields of work-age realted ocular diseases (cataract, age-related macular disease-AMD, glaucoma), neuro-ophthalmology, ultrasound, eye injuries. Member of ISER (International Society for Eye Rerasearch, Lindberg`s society (psuedoexfoliation syndrome), EUNOS (European Neuro-Ophthalmology Society) and Serbian Medical association. Over 180 presented or published works in Ophthalmology. Editor of a special issue of Frontiers in Biomedicine Magazine (``Eye and oxidation stress); reviewer in three medical magazines from CC list; author of textbook ophthalmology for dentistry students and chapter in First aid textbook; monography-Oxidation stress in eye diseases pathogenesis. Full professor of Ophthalmology at Faculty of medicine, University of pristine, Kosovska Mitrovica.

Dr. Saulat Jahan has received her Fellowship in Community Medicine from College of Physicians and Surgeons, Karachi, Pakistan, and MPH from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Currently, she is working as Head of Research and Information Unit in Primary Health Care Administration, Qassim, Saudi Arabia. In addition to conducting research projects, she is involved in teaching and training primary health care physicians and post graduate students of Saudi Diploma in Family Medicine Program. She is a peer reviewer of several reputed journals. She is a member of peer-review community of Dove Medical Press Ltd-- the publishers of Open Access peer-reviewed journals in the domain of medicine, science and technology. She has authored various research articles related to primary health care, infectious diseases and health education. She has also authored a book chapter regarding epidemiology of foodborne illness.

Biography :

Dorte Gilså Hansen, received her PhD in 2004 based on a pharmacoepidemiological study of antidepressant prescribing in primary care. Has since set up several randomized controlled trials, frequently included information from a number of the national registries on for example hospital admissions, pharmacy records, and social status; conducted a number of questionnaire surveys involving patients, partners, primary care physicians and nurses as well as community workers. She is the head of the National Research Center of Cancer Rehabilitation at the Research Unit of General Practice, University of Southern Denmark. With the scope of improving primary care and health outcomes of individual patients her main research areas include rehabilitation, individual needs assessment, and cooperation within the health care sector.
