Biography Currently Dr. Rabiul Ahasan is working at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia and teaching clinical courses. Dr Ahasan has consulted with various educational and industrial organisations and conducted resaerch in the area of human factors and ergonomics. His work has resulted in a goal of supporting ergonomic strategies and improvement of workplace health and safety. As an executive editor of Occupational Medicine & Health Affairs, he would like to invite authors to submit research articles in the multidisciplinary area of occupational health, safety, and ergonomics. Dr. Chen received his graduate education at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. While there he started his research on gastrointestinal motility with a group of internationally renowned investigators in the Department of Medicine. Upon completing his PhD in 1989, Dr. Chen moved to the United State where he accepted a faculty position at the University of Virginia, School of Medicine. In 1995, Dr. Chen moved to Baptist Medical Center of Oklahoma, where he established an Electrophysiology Laboratory and worked intensively on electrophysiology of the gut and gastrointestinal pacing. In June 1999, he joined the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Internal Medicine at UTMB and is currently a Professor of Medicine.

 

His current research interest is in the area of physiology and pathophysiology of gastrointestinal motility as well as obesity and diabetes. Specific research topics include clinical gastrointestinal motility studies and electrical therapies (gastrointestinal electrical stimulation, spinal cord stimulation and vagal nerve stimulation) for functional gastrointestinal disorders, obesity and diabetes. Dr. Chen served as the first President of the International Electrogastrography Society, has given over 180 invited lectures in various countries, served on committees of national and international conferences, published one book, over 310 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and over 400 conference papers and abstracts. His research has been supported by over 100 grants from the federal government, state, private foundations and industries. Dr. Chen has filed or awarded more than 20 patent applications. Dr. Chen is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and a member of various professional societies in medicine and biomedical engineering. Dr. Chen serves as a council member of American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society and a Board Member of North American Neurodumulation Society.

Dr. ChitraLal is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She has board certifications in Internal medicine, Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep medicine. Dr. Lal’s special areas of interest include Sleep disorders and Sarcoidosis and she runsspeciality clinics in these areas at MUSC. Dr. Lal has several peer reviewed publications in different areas including in the field of Pulmonary Vascular disease. She has a passion for teaching and scientific endeavours and discovery and hopes to further these goals through her research and publications. Dr. Lal has been recognized for her clinical expertise through inclusion in the “Guide to America’s Top Physicians”, Consumer’s Research Council of America, for 3 consecutive years (2009, 2010, 2011). In May 2009, Dr. Landsittel started as a statistician in the Center for Research on Health Care, where he works on a wide range of projects through the Data Center and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, in addition to teaching in the Institute for Clinical Research Education. Previously, he held positions at Duquesne University, in three different divisions of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, where he was the associate director of biostatistics. He has published about 65 papers and frequently serves as a grant reviewer for numerous institutes within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. Zhang′s PhD and postdoctoral training was in human genetics of complex traits (e.g., drug response, gene expression), genomics, and bioinformatics. In May, 2010, Dr. Zhang joined the UIC faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Zhang is a leader in bioinformatics and statistical genetics for the UIC Institute for Personalized Respiratory Medicine and the UIC Institute of Human Genetics. Dr. Zhang is the Core Co-leader (Genome-wide Application Core) for the NIH/NHLBI Program Project Grant entitled "Roles of sphingolipids in the pathology of lung injury" and Co-PI/Co-investigator on a number of internal/extramural research grants on lung disease and pharmacogenomics. Dr. Zhang is particularly interested in using high-throughput technologies (e.g., microarray, next-generation sequencing), statistical genetic and bioinformatic tools to study the genetics and epigenetics of complex traits/phenotypes with an emphasis on lung disease including sarcoidosis, acute lung injury, IPF, and sickle cell disease.

Biography :

Dr. Zhao-qian Liu is currently the vice dean of both Institutions of Clinical Pharmacology and Xiangya Medical Laboratory at Central South University, and also director of Hunan Key Laboratory of Pharmacogenetics. He has been the senior visiting scholar at Munich University in Germany from 1996-1998, and the Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of Indiana University School of Medicine in United State of America from 2002-2004.
Professor Liu has got more than 32 national and province grants and published 75 SCI papers on pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics published in abroad journals such as Nucleic Acids Research, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Clinical Cancer Research and so on. He has obtained 5 national invention patents. Professor Liu is now focusing on the research of basic and clinical applications of Pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics on major diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and malignant tumor.

Dr. Fengwei Bai received Ph.D in Genetics at Fudan University, China (2002). He had postdoctoral training at Yale University School of Medicine, Section of Infectious Diseases (2002-2005). He was a research faculty at Yale University School of Medicine, Section of Infectious Diseases (2005-2008) and a Research Scientist at a biotechnology company from 2009 to 2011. From the August of 2011. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Southern Mississippi where he manages a laboratory to continue research and he also tought undergraduate and graduate students Virology and Immunology courses. He had published over 30 scientific papers, book chapters and abstracts.

Dr. Meenakshi Arora received her PhD in 1999 from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at School of Biosciences, University of California Irvine. Currently, she is full time faculty as Research Assistant Professor of Medicine at Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine in University of Pittsburgh. She has authored and delivered various publications and presentations on a variety of topics associated with allergic airways disease (asthma). She is also a member of Indian Immunological Society, International Complement Society, Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, American Association of Immunology, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Society for Mucosal Immunology.

Ouliana Ziouzenkova is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University (OSU), Department of Human Nutrition. After receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree from The State University "Schewtchenko", Kiev, Ukraine in 1986, Dr. Ziouzenkova completed her Ph.D. degree summa cum laude at the University of Graz, Austria in 1997. She performed her post-doctoral studies at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA from 1997 to 1999 and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Boston, MA from 1999 to 2003. She was an Instructor in Medicine from 2003 to 2007 in the same institution. Dr. Ziouzenkova has been honored with the Louis and Norman Katz Basic Science Award by the American Heart Association in 2002, the Lerner Young Faculty Award at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2004, and the New Investigator Award by the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences in 2007. She holds four patents and authors 35 publications.

Dr. Palmer graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. and was trained in hepatology (as well as medical school) at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Dr. Palmer has been a Hepatologist since 1988. She was in a solo practice devoted to treating and evaluating patients with liver disease until 2009 at which time she became Director of Hepatology at NYU - Plainview. Dr. Palmer had the largest solo- practice devoted to hepatitis and liver disease in the U.S. Dr. Palmer left this position to become an independent Hepatology consultant as of January 1, 2012. She remains a Clinical Professor of Medicine at NYU.

She has authored numerous medical and lay-public book chapters and contributed to three encyclopedias on various liver-related topics. She is a co-editor, as well as the author of the entire liver section of the textbook “ Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease Nutrition Desk Reference” which was published September 2011. She is a contributing editor of several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Palmer is the sole WEBMD medical expert for liver disease. She also runs the popular liver website www.liverdisease.com, which has been the top ranked website for liver disease on Yahoo since 1996.
