Henk Schierbeek finished his study in clinical chemistry in 1979 and started his research career at the department of Pediatrics in Groningen. In 1990 he moved to Switzerland as specialist for mass spectrometry at the department of nutrition of the Nestlé research centre in Lausanne. In 2003 he accepted a position at the mass spectrometry laboratory of neonatology, participating in several research projects headed by Prof. Dr. J.B. van Goudoever, at the department of pediatrics at the Erasmus university in Rotterdam. In 2009 he received his Ph.D. degree in medical science at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, where he currently has a position as an assisitant professor heading the mass spectrometry facility of the neonatology department.
Studying metabolism of neonates by means ofkinetic studies using stable isotopes and mass spectrometric techniques.Our aim is too gather information about the need for nutrition in as muchas possible different stages, situations and circumstances of children even in the unborn child, in order to provide optimal formulas of nutrition for each studied population.
