Biography

Dr. Shah Alam Khan is currently working as an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry in the department of Pharmacy at Oman Medical College, Muscat, Oman (affiliated to West Virginia University, USA He received his Ph.D. from Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi, in 2003 for studying role and chemistry of Silybum marianum, silymarin and its synthetic analogues in the hepatoprotection. He is also recipient of Government of India, Junior research fellowship (JRF, GATE) and Senior Research fellowship (SRF, CSIR) for pursuing masters and doctorate. He has published/presented more than 50 research articles in the national and international journal of repute. He is editorial board member of many international journals and has reviewed scientific papers in field of Pharmacy and science for more than 20 journals. He has supervised 15 undergraduate and post graduate research projects, two of them were awarded first and second prize in poster presentation category at international conferences. He has been invited as guest speaker in many conferences. He was awarded ‘Best Teacher’ in Pharmacy at Oman Medical College for the academic year 2010-11 and 2011-12 consecutively. He is life member of many professional bodies such as IPA, IPGA and APTI.

Synthesis and biological activity of Medicinal compounds of pharmaceutical interest

Chemistry and Pharmacological evaluations of natural products for antihepatotoxic, antidiabetic, antiinflamatory and anticancer activities.

Pharmaceutical analysis of drugs.

1. How many years have you been practicing and/or performing research?
I am actively involved in research and teaching since 1999 (around 15 years).

2. What is the research topic you are working on now?
• Isolation, characterization and pharmacological evaluation of natural products.
• Antioxidant testing of medicinal plant extracts as well as isolated phytoconstituents by in vitro and in vivo methods.
• Hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic activity of plant materials.
• ynthesis of pharmaceutical compounds, molecular docking and their biological screening..

3. What makes an article top quality?
Simple and clear language focussing on multidisciplinary science, good data presentation supported with appropriate statistical tests, accurate information and reproducibility of experiment(s) etc.

4. What are the qualities you look for in an article?
Abstract should be short and concise, rationale for research, language, aptly written results and discussion, references cited.

5. Do you have any research funding (NIH or other national funding) now?
Yes

6. When did you become an editor of OMICS Journal?
October- November, 2013

7. What is your greatest career accomplishment?
Recognized and received best teacher award three times.

8. How does the research published percolate through to practitioners?
Many research papers published by me focus on the scientific validation of medicinal plants of their use in traditional system of medicine. The evidence or outcome of the research helps the practitioner to prescribe and use those herbal drugs in clinical setting.

9. What is the purpose of serving as an editor?
• To help in editing/reviewing of the papers in order to improve the quality and impact of journal
• To contribute an editorial/article of contemporary interest
• To invite fellow researchers/recommend/publicize the journal for high readership

Papers published are of high quality and I believe in near future it will be one of top ranked journal in field of Biophysics. This journal provides an ideal platform for international research community to share their research.
