Dr. Isaac Yi Kim graduated from University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, CA) with BA degree in biochemistry in 1990. He subsequently went on to receive the joint MD/PhD degrees from Northwestern University, Chicago, IL. After completing the graduate and medical education in 1997, he started urology residency training at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. Then in 2000-2001, he went to the Laboratory of Cell Regulation and Carcinogenesis at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and completed a one-year urologic oncology research fellowship. At NCI, he investigated the potential roles of bone morphogenetic proteins receptors in prostate, bladder, and renal cell carcinoma cells. Following the urology residency training in 2003, he moved on to complete a fellowship in Endourology, Laparoscopy, and Robotics with the pioneer in minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Ralph V. Clayman, at University of California, Irvine. After the completion of the clinical fellowship, he started as an assistant professor at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, NJ in Aug 2005. The Cancer Institute of New Jersey is one of the forty comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute in the United States. Since his arrival at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Dr. Kim has established a productive laboratory focused on the role of bone morphogenetic proteins in prostate and kidney cancer while simultaneously performing over 1000 robotic surgeries. Currently, he is the chief and associate professor of section of urologic oncology and the director of the Dean and Betty Gallo Prostate Cancer Center at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
