Biography :

Branislav Vlahovic is professor of physics at NCCU and director of the Computational NSF Center of Research Excellence and NASA University Research Center for Aerospace Device. He obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees (nuclear physics and material science) in Zagreb University, Croatia. He was research scientist at Rudjer Boskovic Institute, Zagreb, from 1978 until 1990, when he come to Duke University to work on low energy nuclear physics. Between 1996 and 2001 he had a shared appointment with Jefferson National Laboratory (medium energy nuclear physics) and NCCU. At NCCU he established material science, semiconductor physics, and nanotechnology laboratories and strong theoretical and experimental programs in material science and nuclear physics. For his research and work with students in 2004 he was awarded Gardner award, which is the only state wide award in North Carolina given to UNC system faculty. He published more than 200 peer reviewed articles in the fields of experimental and theoretical material science, nanotechnology, chemistry, cosmology, genomics, atomic, nuclear, and hypernuclear physics.

Biography :

Manijeh Razeghi received the Doctorat d\État es Sciences Physiques from the Université de Paris, France, in 1980.

After heading the Exploratory Materials Lab at Thomson-CSF (France), she joined Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, as a Walter P. Murphy Professor and Director of the Center for Quantum Devices in Fall 1991, where she created the undergraduate and graduate program in solid-state engineering. She is one of the leading scientists in the field of semiconductor science and technology, pioneering in the development and implementation of major modern epitaxial techniques such as MOCVD, VPE, gas MBE, and MOMBE for the growth of entire compositional ranges of III-V compound semiconductors. She is on the editorial board of many journals such as Journal of Nanotechnology, and Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, an Associate Editor of Opto-Electronics Review. She is on the International Advisory Board for the Polish Committee of Science, and is an Adjunct Professor at the College of Optical Sciences of the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ. She has authored or co-authored more than 1000 papers, more than 30 book chapters, and fifteen books, including the textbooks Technology of Quantum Devices (Springer Science+Business Media, Inc., New York, NY U.S.A. 2010) and Fundamentals of Solid State Engineering, 3rd Edition (Springer Science+Business Media, Inc., New York, NY U.S.A. 2009). Two of her books, MOCVD Challenge Vol. 1 (IOP Publishing Ltd., Bristol, U.K., 1989) and MOCVD Challenge Vol. 2 (IOP Publishing Ltd., Bristol, U.K., 1995), discuss some of her pioneering work in InP-GaInAsP and GaAs-GaInAsP based systems. The MOCVD Challenge, 2nd Edition (Taylor & Francis/CRC Press, 2010) represents the combined updated version of Volumes 1 and 2. She holds 50 U.S. patents and has given more than 1000 invited and plenary talks. Her current research interest is in nanoscale optoelectronic quantum devices.

Dr. Razeghi is a Fellow of MRS, IOP, IEEE, APS, SPIE, OSA, Fellow and Life Member of Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Fellow of the International Engineering Consortium (IEC), and a member of the Electrochemical Society, ACS, AAAS, and the French Academy of Sciences and Technology. She received the IBM Europe Science and Technology Prize in 1987, the Achievement Award from the SWE in 1995, the R.F. Bunshah Award in 2004, and many best paper awards.

Professor Mahi R. Singh received both M.Sc. (1970) and PhD (1976) degrees from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in condensed matter physics. After that he was awarded an Alenxander von Humbold Fellow in Stuttgart University, Germany from 1979 to 1981. Between 1981 and 1985 he was a Research Associate and Lecture at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. From 1982 to 1983 he worked in INSA, Toulouse, France as a vesting scientist. He also worked as Research Associate at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA. After that he joined the University of Western Ontario as associate professor in 1985. Currently he is professor in this university. He was a visting professor at University of Houston, USA from June till November in 1992. He also worked as a chief researcher at CRL HITACHI, Tokyo between November 1992 and May 1993. In summer 1993 and 1994, he was a visiting professor and Royal Society Professor at University of Oxford, UK. He was the director of the Centre of Chemical Physics at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He also served as the director of Theoretical Physics Program for many years at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He is a senator at the university of Western Ontario. Dr. Singh has worked in many research are of science and technology including nanoscience, nanotechnology, nanophotonics, plasmonics, optoelectronics, photonic crystals, Metamaterials, semiconductor here structures, high temperature superconductors, positron annihilation, Josephson Junctions, many body theories, condensed matter physics, semiconductor devices, Thermal Transport, DNA Molecules and DNA wires and so on. He has published more than 300 papers in International journals. He has written several books which are used as text books at UWO, Canada. He has organized several International conferences. Dr. Peng-Sheng Wei was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1953. He returned Taiwan in 1957. He completed his education in Taiwan. After he received M.S. degree in Power Mechanical Engineering in National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, and military service, he went to California for his further study in 1980. He received Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering Department at University of California, Davis, in 1984. He has been a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering of National Sun Yat-Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, ROC, since 1989. Dr. Wei has contributed to advancing understanding of and to the applications of electron and laser beam, plasma, and resistance welding through theoretical analyses coupled with verification experiments. Investigations also include studies of their thermal and fluid flow processes, and formations of the defects such as humping, rippling, spiking and porosity. Dr. Wei has published more than 70 journal papers. He is a Fellow of AWS (2007), and a Fellow of ASME (2000). He also received the Outstanding Research Achievement Awards from both the National Science Council (2004), and NSYSU (1991, 2001, 2004), the Outstanding Scholar Research Project Winner Award from National Science Council (2008), Adams Memorial Membership Award from AWS (2008), and Warren F. Savage Memorial Award from AWS (2012). He has been the Xi-Wan Chair Professor of NSYSU since 2009.

Prof. ELISEEV Peter received Master Deg. from Moscow State University (MSU), Physics Dept. (Moscow, Russia), in 1959. He received PhD (1965) and DrSci (1974) degrees from P. N. Lebedev Physics Institute (LPI), Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia, where he had been affiliated since 1963 to 2008 after post-graduated staying at MSU (1959-1963). His last position at the LPI was Head of the Injection Laser Laboratory. He joined the Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM, University of New Mexico) in 1994 on leave from the LPI as a visiting professor, and he has retired since 2008. At present he is Professor Emeritus at the CHTM. Fields of his scientific interests are physics and technology of semiconductor lasers and related photonics devices: semiconductor optical amplifiers, laser gyros, light-emitting diodes. He is author or co-author of more than 550 publications and books “Semiconductor Lasers” (1976, in Russian and in French), “Introduction into Physics of Injection Lasers” (1983, in Russian), and “Reliability Problems of Semiconductor Lasers” (1991, in English). "Cody received his PhD in Bio-Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT where he developed platform technologies to accelerate genetic and drug discovery in small model organisms. He developed a rapid femtosecond laser neurosurgery system and performed the first large-scale nerve injury study which revealed chemical therapeutics that significantly enhance nerve regeneration in a live animal (C. elegans) with single axon precision. His work has been featured in PNAS, Nature, The Economist and honored with the Regeneron $50K Prize for Creative Innovation. Prior to MIT, Cody was with Texas Instruments on expat assignment in Asia where he managed the technical development and deployment of automated MEMS-based technologies for semiconductor wafer testing. He received the TI Breakthrough Award for leading the successful production ramp of over one billion units enabling the widely acclaimed "LoCosto" chip (the $10 cell phone distributed in developing economies). As a Kauffman Entrepreneurship Foundation Fellow at Stanford, Cody developed a consulting model that provides cost-effective consulting to innovative nonprofits at critical early stages in their development and was invited to present at the First World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship at Oxford. He received the BS in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas where his work in photonic crystals, artificial blood cell technology, and digital design received the top undergraduate research prizes in 2005 and 2006."

Synthesis of nano materials using leaf extraction and protein from leaf for antibacterial, antimicrobial and anticancer activities.
Synthesis and growth of materials suitable for photonics device fabrication Development of novel materials suitable for terahertz wave generation Characterization/Testing of materials by laser and estimation of parameters like SHG efficiency and damage threshold.
Characterization/Testing by Heat flow, mechanical and spectroscopic techniques.
