Frimpong is Professor and Robert Quenon Endowed Chair of Mining and Nuclear Engineering and the Director of the Heavy Mining Machinery Laboratory at Missouri S&T. He holds PhD (1992) from University of Alberta, MS (1988) from University of Zambia, and Postgraduate Diploma (1986) and BS (1985) from Ghana University of Science and Technology. Biography :

Professor Cheng obtained his PhD degree from the Physics Department of Princeton University in 1999. He has his MS degree from the Institute of High Energy Physics (Beijing) in 1993 and BS degree from the Modern Physics Department of University of Science and Technology of China in 1990. He was a postdoctoral fellow of ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company (Annandale, New Jersey, USA), and Harvard University (with Prof. Dave Weitz). He joined Texas A&M University as an Assistant professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering in August 2004 and was promoted to Associate professor in 2010. He is also a faculty member of the Materials Science and Engineering Program and the Professional Program in Biotechnology of TAMU. Professor Cheng’s expertise is in the area of complex fluids and soft condensed matter physics. He has published over 60 papers in journals including Nature, Science, and Physical Review Letters.

Candan Tamerler joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Kansas in 2013. She worked as a Professor in Materials Science & Engineering Department in University of Washington, Seattle, WA-USA. She is also assistant director in Genetically Engineering Science & Engineering Center (GEMSEC), an MRSEC-NSF center in UW. Tamerler is also on the scientific advisory board of Molecular Biology-Biotechnology and Genetics Research Center (MOBGAM) in ITU where she has been the founding director of the research center in 2004. Tamerler focuses her research in the bio/nano interface, biomaterials, biological fabrication of materials and systems as well as the practical implementation of the engineered hybrid materials systems. Her field of expertise cover Bio-Nanotechnology; Peptide based materials assembly and synthesis; Biofabrication; Bio-material interface, Fusion Protein/peptide biotechnology; Cell-material interactions. Tamerler has published more than 100 SCI articles, 7 book chapters, and 35 proceedings articles and >350 abtracts and delivered numerous invited and plenary talks in international conferences. She has organized various conferences and symposia in the biological interactions with the materials.

Biography :

Thomas J. Webster is a professor for the School of Engineering and Department of Orthopaedics at Brown University. His degrees are in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (B.S., 1995) and in biomedical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (M.S., 1997; Ph.D., 2000). Prof. Webster’s research explores the use of nanotechnology in numerous applications. Specifically, his research addresses the design, synthesis, and evaluation of nanophase (that is, materials with fundamental length scales less than 100 nm) materials as more effective biomedical implants. Prof. Webster is the current director of the Nanomedicine Laboratories (currently at 33 members) and has completed extensive studies on the use of nanophase materials to regenerate tissues. He has graduated over 51 post-doctoral students, and thesis completing B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. students. To date, his lab group has (or will by the end of the year) generate over 8 textbooks, 48 book chapters, 233 invited presentations, at least 343 peer-reviewed literature articles and/or conference proceedings, at least 504 conference presentations, and 24 provisional or full patents.  His H factor is 40. Some of these patents led to the formation of five companies. His research on nanomedicine has received attention in recent media publications including MSNBC (October 10, 2005), NBC Nightly News (May 14, 2007), PBS DragonFly TV (covered across the US during the winter, 2008), and ABC Local Nightly News via the Ivanhoe Medical Breakthrough Segment (covered across the US during the winters of 2008 and a separate research segment in 2010). His work has been on display at the London and Boston Science Museums. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Nanomedicine (the first international journal in nanomedicine), has organized 13 conferences emphasizing nanotechnology in medicine, and has organized over 49 symposia at numerous conferences emphasizing biological interactions with nanomaterials. He was also recently selected to chair the 2011 Annual Biomedical Engineering Society Meeting in Hartford. Prof. Webster has received numerous honors including, but not limited to: 2002, Biomedical Engineering Society Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award; 2003, Outstanding Young Investigator Award Purdue University College of Engineering; 2005, American Association of Nanomedicine Young Investigator Award Finalist; 2005, Coulter Foundation Young Investigator Award; 2006, Fellow, American Association of Nanomedicine; and 2010, Distinguished Lecturer in Nanomedicine, University of South Florida. He was recently appointed director of the Indo-U.S. Center for Biomaterials for Healthcare.

Biography :

Hamid Arastoopour is presently Henry R. Linden chair professor of energy and Director of Wanger Institute for sustainable energy research (WISER) at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He is also Professor of Chemical and Mechanical engineering at IIT. His research expertise is in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of multiphase flow and particle technology—an area motivated by Pharmaceutical and energy and environmentally related applications and documented in more than 100 publications and 13 USA patents. He has developed an international reputation for his research in the areas of computational fluid dynamics, fluid particle systems and fluidization. His computational work has shortened the time lag from laboratory- to commercial-scale for fluid/particle and fluidized bed systems. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Powder Technology Journal. He has received several AIChE awards including the Donald Q. Kern Award in Heat Transfer and Energy Conversion, the Fluor Daniel Lectureship in Fluidization and Fluid/Particle Systems, the Ernest W. Thiele Award, and the Fluidization Process Recognition Award. He is also a Fellow of AIChE.

I am He Yuehui who was born on Sept. 1, 1963 in Hunan province, central south of China. In September 1980, I was admitted to the Xiangtan University. In the four years that followed, I has studied in the major of Metal Materials and Heat-treatment and obtained Bachelor\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\s degree of Material. Since then I worked as an assistance in the Xiangtan University and gained my Master Degree of Materials Science from Xiangtan University in 1990. In 1991, I passed the entrance examination to be a PhD candidate to investigate the TiAl Intermetallic Compounds in Central South University and got my PhD in the Materials Science and Engineer. After that I have experienced my research work as a postdoctor in 1996.Since 1996 to now I have been worked as a professor in the State Key Laboratory for Powder Metallurgy of Central South University due to my remarkable research experiences in the Powder Metallurgy field. In the couple year from 1998 to 2000, I employed to work as a senior researcher in Oak Ridge Nation Laboratory, USA.

Professor Ramesh K. Agarwal is the William Palm Professor of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. From 1994 to 2001, he was the Sam Bloomfield Distinguished Professor and Executive Director of the National Institute for Aviation Research at Wichita State University in Kansas. From 1978 to 1994, he was the Program Director and McDonnell Douglas Fellow at McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratory in St. Louis. Dr. Agarwal obtained his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1975. He is the author and co-author of over 400 publications. His research interests are in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Renewable Energy Systems, and Nanotechnology. He is a Fellow of sixteen professional engineering societies including the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Satish J. Parulekar is currently Professor of Chemical Engineering and Acting Chair in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL. He received B.S. with honors from University of Bombay, M.S. from University of Pittsburgh, and Ph.D. from Purdue University, all degrees being in chemical engineering. His research interests include biochemical engineering, chemical reaction engineering, modeling and optimization of biological and chemical processes, and reactions with separations. He is an author/co-author of 90 technical contributions including a research monograph and five book chapters and more than 120 presentations, which include more than 85 presentations at various professional society meetings. He has served as a manuscript referee for 42 archival journals and reviewed research grant applications and served on grant review panels and Graduate Fellowship panels of Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and National Science Foundation (NSF). His research has been supported by DOE, EPA, NSF, Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and industry. He has supervised thesis (M.S. and Ph.D.) work of 45 students. He has held visiting appointments at the University of Minnesota, Mumbai University, and National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India. He has been a faculty research participant and a faculty associate at Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, IL. Member of several professional and honor societies, he was on the Honor Roll for Engineering Accomplishments by Chemical Engineers at the 75th Anniversary of the Chicago Section of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (May 2000), was a Lupin Visiting Fellow, Mumbai University (summer 2006), and a recipient of Glory of India Award, New Delhi, India (January 2012). Kota Hanumantha Rao is Professor of Mineral Processing at the Luleå University of Technology, Luleå, Sweden. Dr. Rao worked at Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad; Government Engineering College, Rewa University, Rewa & Regional Research Laboratory, Bhubaneswar, India, before joining the Division of Mineral Processing of Luleå University of Technology (LTU) in 1985. Since then, he is associated with LTU and became Docent and Full Professor in Mineral Processing, in 1992 and 2003, respectively. Prof. Rao has authored more than 150 scientific papers published in various international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Xuanhui Qu is the Cheung Kong Scholars Program Professor in Materials and Dean of Materials Science and Engineering at University of Science and Technology Beijing. Prior to this, he was a Professor and the Executive Director of Powder Metallurgy Research Institute at Central South University. He obtained his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Central South University in 1981, 1984 and 1992 respectively. During 1986 to 1988, he was studying and working as a visiting scientist at The University of British Columbia (Canada). Professor M Shariaty-Niassar is currently working as a professor at Chemical Engineering School, College of Engineering; University of Tehran, where he acted as the Principle of the College for five years.  He  has carried out his postgraduate studies (i.e. MSc, PhD) at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology UMIST, UK for the period of 1982 till 1988.  In 1998, he spent a year sabbatical leave at Tohoku University, Japan. As soon as he returned back home he was appointed as the Chancellor of Kashan University till 2003. Then he joined National Iranian Gas Company NIGC as the research manager where he initiated a new administration for research in Gas Industries. At the same time he together with other researchers founded the Iranian Nanotechnology Society INS. Now it is nearly five years that he has reshuffled his research group at the University of Tehran where he is established the new laboratory of Transport Phenomena & Nanotechnology. He has also published over 75 papers as well as many books in his field .

Prof. Jiunn-Der Liao obtained Bachelor’s degree from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU, 1984 Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (MME)) in Taiwan, Masters’ degrees from K. U. Zivan Zivkovic was born on 2.08.1949 in Leskovac, Serbia. He graduated at the Technical Faculty in Bor, University of Belgrade, Serbia, in 1973. He obtained his M. Sc and PhD degree from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1976 and 1979, respectively. During the period between 1985 - 1995 he was Dean of the Faculty. Tsipas, received her MEng degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Imperial College (London, UK) in 2000 and completed her PhD in 2005 at the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy in the University of Cambridge, UK. She has performed several placements in recognised centres, including Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki, Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Aeroespacial (INTA) and Metallurgical Industrial Research & Technology Centre. She was awarded the Marie Curie Training Fellowship to carry out research work in the Institut de Ciencia de Materials de Barcelona ICMAB (CSIC). She worked as post-doctoral researcher in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in the Dpt. Materials Science and Engineering Metallurgy the years 2006-2007. In 2008 she was awarded the postdoctoral Fellowship Juan de la Cierva to work in the Powder Technology Group at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). Since 2010 is an assistant professor in the Dpt. of Materials Science and Engineering in the UC3M. During her research trajectory she has a published a total of 32 publications in international scientific journals (h-index=9), has presented 27 communications in international conferences and is coauthor in 2 patents. Dr. Sophia Tsipas has significant research experience on surface engineering and development of coatings for improving the surface properties of materials. She has participated in several European projects focused on the development of coatings resistant to high temperature oxidation and wear. Her research work in these projects included the development of coatings containing, Al, Mn, B and Si by pack cementation, CVD fluidized bed and slurry coatings mainly for materials used in the energy sector, as well as development of novel ceramic thermal barrier coatings deposited by plasma spraying on nickel-based superalloys for the aerospace industry. Since 2008 she has also been involved in research on the production of Ti and Ti alloys by powder metallurgy and the fabrication of TiCN-based cermets for cutting and forming applications. Dr. Sofia Tsipas in addition has research experience in both the fabrication (including 2 patents) and surface engineering of foam materials. Finally, Dr. Tsipas has extensive experience in the use of thermodynamic & kinetic modelling tools Thermocalc and Dictra for optimization of materials, coatings and processes.

Dr. Prashant K Sarswat joined the University of Utah in year 2007 and have involved in many interdisciplinary projects. Currently, he is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering. His primary research is in the area of earth abundant solar cell materials, sensors and optical materials which are generally synthesized using solution based methods.
