Biography :

Abass Alavi is Professor of Radiology and Neurology. He is currently the Director of Research Education in the Division of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2004, Alavi was awarded the Georg Charles von Hevesy Award from the Society of Nuclear Medicine for his pioneering work in the development of positron emission tomography. He is an internationally renowned expert in the modern imaging sciences and in the clinical applications of PET imaging for the detection of cancer as well as neurological, cardiovascular and infectious disorders.

Biography :

Dr. Mountz is Professor of Radiology and Chief of the Division of Nuclear Medicine in the Department of Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is also Director of the Neuronuclear Medicine Section. In addition, he is Clinical Director of the PET Center and Director of the PET Core Grant for the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Dr. Mountz obtained his Ph.D. in high energy physics from Michigan State University in 1974 and completed his Doctorate of Medicine Degree at Case Western Reserve University in 1981. He has assumed continuous positions as an imaging researcher, primarily in the area of nuclear medicine applications of radiopharmaceuticals in brain and oncology imaging. Dr. Mountz currently or has been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator on four NIH funded grant applications and several corporate grant applications in addition to Society, foundation and approximately 20 other intramural and extramural grant applications. He has published over 125 peer review manuscripts and over 10 book chapters and presented over 300 peer-reviewed presentations concerning results from these research endeavors.

Biography :

Dr. Du received his bachelor degree in technological physics from Beijing University in 1995 and master degree in solid state physics from Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1998. His PhD is in medical physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Du joined the UCSD faculty as an Assistant Professor of Radiology in 2005 and an Associate Professor since 2010. Dr. Du’s research interests are in the field of magnetic resonance imaging, focusing on ultrashort TE (UTE) imaging of short T2 tissues such as cortical bone, tendons, menisci, ligaments, calcified cartilage and calcification in soft tissues. Dr. Du has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed articles with a focus on osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and angiography. Dr. Du’s awards include the RSNA Research Scholar (2008) and the American Heart Young Investigator Award (2008). Dr. Du received funding support from NIH, GE HealthCare, Department of Veterans Affairs, Bracco Diagnostic Inc. and UCSD Academic Senate.

Dr. Domenico Rubello is Professor of Nuclear Medicine in Oncology and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) at the Post-graduate Radiotherapy and Oncology Medical School at Padova University and Nuclear Medicine in Radio-guided Surgery at the Post-graduate Surgery Medical School at Padova University. He is Head of the Nuclear Medicine Service, PET/CT Centre at Rovigo General Hospital in Veneto (Italy).He is Director of the Department of Imaging (Radiology, Medical Physics, Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Centre) at Rovigo General Hospital in Veneto (Italy). He is/has been member of various scientific Societies (American Society of Nuclear Medicine-SNM, European Association of Nuclear Medicine-EANM, Italian Association of Nuclear Medicine-AIMN, Italian Study Group on Radioguided Surgery-GISCRIS and so forth). Kenji Suzuki received his Ph.D. degree in information engineering from Nagoya University in 2001. From 1993 to 2001, he worked at Hitachi Medical Corporation and then Aichi Prefectural University as faculty. In 2001, he joined Department of Radiology at University of Chicago. Since 2006, he has been Assistant Professor of Radiology, Medical Physics and Cancer Research Center there. He has published 200 papers (including 75 peer-reviewed journal papers). He has been serving as the Editor-in-Chief and an Associate Editor of 12 leading international journals including Medical Physics, International Journal of Biomedical Imaging and Academic Radiology. He has received Paul Hodges Award, three RSNA Certificate of Merit Awards and Research Trainee Prize, Cancer Research Foundation Young Investigator Award, SPIE Honorable Mention Poster Award, IEEE Outstanding Member Award and Kurt Rossmann Excellence in Teaching Award. Biography :

Dr Xiaoliang Zhang received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from South China University of Technology, Guangzhou and the Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He worked at the Ohio State University, Columbus, developing the world’s first 8-Tesla whole-body MRI system. Prior to joining Center for MR Research at University of Minnesota in 1999, he was employed by Picker International (currently Philips Medical Systems) on the initial clinical 3T MR project. He was an Assistant Professor with Department of Radiology at University of Minnesota. In 2006, Dr. Zhang moved to University of California San Francisco (UCSF), where he is currently a full Professor, engaged in teaching, in vivo MR imaging research and professional services. He is a core faculty member of UC Berkeley and UCSF Joint Graduate Group in Bioengineering, and faculty member of California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3). Dr Zhang is a pioneer in the development of ultrahigh field MRI, and has authored and co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in the field of MR imaging. His research is funded by NIH and other research foundations.

Rashid A. Fawwaz, MD, PhD, is Professor of Clinical Radiology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Richard Duszak, MD completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Duke University Medical Center and completed a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. Dr. Duszak currently serves on the AMA CPT Editorial Panel and its Executive Committee. Jie Zhang, Ph.D. is Associate Professor and chief of Medical Physics Division in the Department of Radiology at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Zhang is also an American Board of Radiology (ABR) certified Medical Physicist in Diagnostic Physics. He received his PhD degrees in Biophysical Sciences and Medical Physics from University of Minnesota in 2004. He was a research fellow at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester from 2004 to 2006. Dr. Zhang worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Minnesota from 2006 to 2011. Donghoon Lee is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington. He received his PhD degree in physics from Brown University in 1991. Lee worked jointly at both Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, MA as a post-doctoral researcher. He continued his Magnetic Resonance (MR) research at the Department of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering of the University of California at Santa Barbara, CA. Then he conducted research and taught in the Department of Physics at Pai Chai University, Taejon, South Korea from 1993 to 2004. Lee was Professor of Physics at Pai Chai University before joining in Radiology at the University of Washington in 2004. Since then, he has conducted his research focused on MR absolute quantification and animal MR studies in collaborations with several research groups from within and outside the University.

Donghoon Lee’s research interest has been focused on magnetic resonance (MR) quantification using synthetic reference signal injections, small animal MR studies and the development of RF and gradient coils for MR. He has developed a novel, non-invasive method and device to accurately quantify metabolite concentrations in MR measurements using an inductively coupled reference signal injection method. In the collaborations with the cancer biology, nanotechnology, neurosurgery and muscular dystrophy groups from both the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Lee has worked on animal MR studies for the development of MR imaging and MR spectroscopy methodology to understand various diseases including pediatric brain cancer, pancreatic cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and muscular dystrophy.

Dr. Zhao obtained his M.D. degree from Dalian Medical University of China and earned his Ph.D. in Medical Science studying brain tumor biology and imaging at University of Tsukuba of Japan in 1998. Dr. Zhao then joined the Department of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and now an Associate Professor of Radiology. Dr Quek Swee Tian is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Clinical Director in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the National University Health System. Yutong Liu obtained his bachelor of engineering in the Capital Medical University in Beijing, China and his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at the University of Iowa in 2002. He had his postdoctoral training in the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging in Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2006 he joined the faculty of the Radiology Department at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). In UNMC, he developed MRI and image analysis methods and applied these methods to study neurodegenerative diseases in animal models. Besides teaching graduate and professional courses, he also mentor graduate students as a primary or a secondary supervisor. He served as a reviewer for several premier journals.

Yutong Liu primary research interest is to develop MRI methods and image analysis techniques for neuroscience research, especially for neurodegenerative diseases. He has employed advanced MRI methods including diffusion tensor imaging and perfusion-weighted imaging to study the evolution of ischemic brain injury in a model of stroke using nonhuman primates (macaques). Rest state functional MRI was also employed in this study to predict reversible and nonreversible brain damage after ischemia. In UNMC, he developed manganese enhanced MRI methods to study HIV-1 associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) in murine models. Several image analysis techniques including mouse brain extraction and in vivo brain MRI to histology coregistration were developed for this study. His immediate research projects include the development of multi-spectral MRI techniques for the diagnosis of HAND and the development of functional MRI techniques to evaluate the therapeutic methods for HAND.

 Dr. Ramasamy Paulmurugan is Assistant Professor in Radiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He received his Masters in Biomedical Genetics and Ph.D. in Molecular Virology from the University of Madras, India. After serving as scientist for four years, he joined the School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles as a visiting scientist. In 2003 he moved to Stanford as a Senior Research Scientist. Since 2009 he has been working as Assistant Professor at the Department of Radiology in Stanford University under the Molecular Imaging Program (MIPS). He is a pioneer in developing split-reporter protein complementation systems for different reporter genes (luciferases, fluorescent proteins and thymidine kinase) and has been using the system for imaging cellular protein-protein interactions in living animals. Currently his lab (Cellular Pathway Imaging Laboratory (CPIL)) is working on the application of different imaging strategies to evaluate the therapeutic role of ERbeta, another important estrogen receptor, which has been recently identified as one of the major player in Estrogen biology.

Phillip Zhe Sun, PhD, received his Bachelor Degree in applied physics from Peking University and earned his PhD in Radiological Science from Harvard-MIT, Division of Health Sciences and Technology under the mentorship of Professor David Cory. During his Ph.D. study, Dr. Sun proposed a magic asymmetric gradient diffusion technique that allowed accurate characterization of complex porous media. After his Ph.D. study, Dr. Sun joined the Neuroimaging group led by Professor Peter van Zijl at Johns Hopkins University for his postdoctoral training in stroke imaging. Dr. Sun’s research elucidated the mechanism of the newly proposed endogenous amide proton transfer (APT) MRI for imaging pH, particularly important for stroke imaging. At Martinos Center, Dr. Sun will translate pH MRI to study tissue metabolism change during human acute stroke while continuing to develop novel MRI techniques using animal models.

Aruna Turaka research intrests includes Lung cancer involving the stereotactic body radiation therapy both for the primary and metastatic disease along with the role of different radiation therapy techniques for the resectable and unresectable NSCLC. She is also a part of clinical trials involving the use of targeted agents in the treatment of LANSCLC with concurrent chemoradiation therapy at Fox Chase Cancer Center. She also developed a database of the treatment of Head and neck malignancies with IMRT at FCCC during her fellowship, presented data at several national meetings and published in peer/non-peer reviewed journals. She also developed a database on ocular lymphoma and extra-nodal lymphoma and published/presented her work at different meetings. As a junior faculty at FCCC, she developed a database on the treatment outcomes for the Merkel Cell Carcinoma and presented abstracts in collaboration with the multispecialty teams at FCCC. Presently, she is developing a database on the SBRT outcomes for both the primary and metastatic lung cancer.  She adjusted merit awards at national meetings for the H&N, Lymphoma presentations.

Dr. Delfyett, born and raised on Long Island, New York, pursued his undergraduate training at The Johns Hopkins University in the History of Science, Technology and Medicine. This was followed by medical training at the University of Pennsylvania and Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Boston Medical center, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Edward Y. Lee received his A.B. and M.D. from the University of Chicago and his M.P.H. from Harvard University, followed by an internship at Harvard Medical Center (BIDM/BWH/DFCI) and radiology residency at Mallincrodt Institute of Radiology/Washington University Medical Center. After completing a pediatric radiology fellowship as a chief fellow at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School in 2006, he joined the Departments of Radiology and Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine as a clinician-researcher whose academic focus is on developing non-invasive imaging methods that will improve the clinical care of pediatric patients diagnosed with thoracic anomalies and abnormalities. Dr. Lee was appointed as the Chief of Thoracic Imaging Division in 2010 and has provided integrated image performance and interpretation across modalities for congenital and acquired pediatric thoracic disorders at Children’s Hospital Boston. Dr. Lee has more than 95 peer-reviewed journal articles, 25 review articles or book chapters, and two books related to pediatric chest imaging. Dr. Lee has made significant improvements in advanced multidetector CT (MDCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the non-invasive evaluation of pediatric airways, lungs and mediastinal vascular disorders, largely accomplished with the funding support of the Society of Pediatric Radiology and Society of Thoracic Radiology. He has served either as a visiting professor or as an invited speaker on various topics related to pediatric thoracic imaging education more than 20 different countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Michael R. McDevitt is a research scientist in the Departments of Medicine and Radiology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He specializes in the development and clinical translation of targeted radiolabeled drug constructs to treat cancer and other diseases. From 1995 to 1996, he was a post-doctoral research fellow in several university hospitals in Germany, including Aachen, Bonn, Berlin and Tubingen. Dr. Chen is currently a full professor at the Department of Radiology, China Medical University Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan and an associate researcher (equivalent to associate professor) at the Center for Functional Onco-Imaging of the Department of Radiological Sciences, University of California Irvine. Dr. Chen was a clinical radiologist for 17 years (specializing in body imaging) before coming to his faculty position at UCI in 2005.

Kaan Orhan, DDS MSc PhD is an Associate Professor of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology at the Near East and Ankara University, Faculty of Dentistry, where he serves as the chairman of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department, Near East University, Nicosia, Cyprus. Dr. Orhan was born in Çaycuma, 1976. He received his dental degree in 1998 from Ankara University, Turkey and completed his Maxillofacial Radiology residency studies in 2002 at the Osaka University Faculty of Dentistry in Osaka, Japan. In 2004, he started his academic career in Ankara University as a consultant at the Faculty of Dentistry. Between 2004-2006, he worked as Maxillofacial consultant and lecturer in the same University. He became an associate professor in 2006. In 2007, he started as the chairman of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department, Near East University, Nicosia, Cyprus. He has over 50 SCI international publications on peer-reviewed journals, and received over 175 citations from his studies. He particularly made significant contributions in the Maxillofacial Radiology. He has been invited to give many lectures in national and international scientific meetings. He is also serving as the chairman of Research and Scientific Committee, European Academy of DentoMaxillofacial Radiology. He has been a reviewer for the Clinical Anatomy, Oral Surgery Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiol and Endod, Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, World Journal Surgical Oncology.

Kivanc Kamburoglu did his DDS in 1999 from Ankara University, Faculty of Dentistry, MSc in 2002 from Ankara University, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department. He served as Research fellow at Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine Department, Tel Aviv University from 2005 to 2007. He got his PhD from Ankara University, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department. He did military service between December 2007 and December 2008. He served as third and second lieutenant doctor in the Turkish Army; located at Gülhane Military Medical Academy, Dental Sciences Center, Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, Ankara. From 2009 to 2011 I served as a research associate at Ankara University, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department. In 2011, He was appointed as Associate Professor at the Department of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, Faculty of Dentistry, Ankara University, Ankara, Turkey. Between 2011 April and 2012 April he worked as a visiting post-doctoral research fellow at Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology & Imaging Department of Louisville University, Faculty of Dentistry, Louisville, Kentucky, US.
