Francisco Carrau is Professor and head of the Enology Section of the Food Science Department of University of the Republic. He has also a deep relation with the wine industry as a part time R&D director and Head Winemaker of his family owned Winery in Uruguay. Castel Pujol winery is one of the leaders of the emergence of exports of Uruguayan quality wines in the last two decades. He was graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of the Republic Uruguay, Faculty of Sciences, in 1987 (specialized in Fungal Genetics).  In 2003 he obtained his PhD in Chemistry in the same University at the School of Chemistry in a joint project with the Head of Wine Microbiology at the Australian Wine Research Institute (Dr. Paul A. Henschke) in a topic related to yeast wine aroma compounds and nitrogen metabolism. He had directed 6 Masters and 3 PhD thesis in Wine Microbiology and Aroma Compounds since 1998.  He conducts the first post grade course of Uruguay in Wine Biotechnology in collaboration with invited Professors. Participates or conduct of more than 10 projects about grapes and wine together with the main Institutions of the field in Uruguay (University, LATU, INIA INAVI, IIBCE, etc.). He has more than 40 original articles published and more than 70 research works presented at international meetings about wine.  Since April 2011 is leading the Enology and Biotechnology Group of the CSIC I+D programme of University of the Republic, UdelaR, Uruguay (2011-2014).

Marco Gobbetti is full professor of Applied Microbiology at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bari. He has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the II International Symposium on Sourdough (Brussells, 2003), Food Micro-2006 (Bologna, 2006), Cheese Science (Sydney, 2006), III International Symposium on Sourdough (Bari, 2006), International Symposium on Gluten Free Products (Cork, 2007), IV International Symposium on Sourdough (Munich, 2009) and Cheese Science 2010 (Auckland). He is speaker at International Conferences that relate to the food microbiology.  He is associate editor of the journal IJFS. He is member of the Editorial Board of the journals IDJ, IJFM and FM. He is the author of about 270 publications that relate to the microbiology of food. Marli Camassola was born in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 1977is graduated in Biological Sciences at University of Caxias do Sul (1999), MSc. (2002) and PhD (2007) in Biotechnology at University of Caxias do Sul and conducted postdoctoral studies at Imperial College London (2008-2009). She is currently researcher and professor at University of Caxias do Sul. Has experience in Microbiology and Biochemistry with emphasis on biochemical processes, mainly in the following areas: production and characterization of hydrolytic enzymes and phenol oxidase, hydrolysis and fermentation of lignocellulose, industrial microbiology. Participates in the research group that has some patents about enzyme production (cellulases and xylanases) and second generation ethanol in Brazil and a PCT (USA). She has several articles in publications in international scientific journals. Coordinates projects in the production of hydrolytic enzymes and hydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass. It is revising the national and international scientific journal.

Yu Hong Wei is a Professor of Graduate School of Biotechnology and Bioengineering at Yuan Ze University in Taiwan. His contributions to the academia and bioindustry are numerous, including the fermentation processes development on biosufactants (such as surfactin), biopolymers (PHA) and biofuels (ethanol), and environmental engineering. He has authored more than 50 papers and book chapters and earned many awards and honors, including the Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize 2010, the Highest Research Performance Award in Yuan Ze University. The main contribution Dr. Wei made is in the application of molecular biology methods and biochemical engineering techniques to the production of many novel compounds. Some of these products are now developed by local industrial partners. He is also active in academia-industry collaboration and service works in our science community.

Dr. Dahman has research focus on several emerging areas of technology in the fields of Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, with special interest in Biomedical Engineering. He has commissioned a state-of-the-art research facility at Ryerson to conduct his research projects, which were funded by several agencies including Ryerson University, NSERC and Ministry of Agriculture Canada. In the past five years, Dr. Dahman has supervised nearly 20 graduate student theses projects, and published several peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings. His research team has participated in several national and international conferences in addition to local and regional meetings. Dr. Dahman has long experience in developing medical devices for the health care industry, such as developing and testing novel wound dressing materials for chronic wounds.  His is currently working on designing and synthesizing novel nano-structured biomaterials with focus on improving health care industry. His research activities were evolved into the production of biofuels from renewable resources such as agricultural crops and wastes. He is also actively involved in developing and testing new types of bioreactors that are mainly utilized in fermentations and other biotechnology applications.

Dr. Shibasaki has received his PhD in Kyoto University, 2001. Currently, he is working as biotechnological and biochemical studies for medicine in Hyogo University of Health Sciences. He is serving as an editorial member and a reviewer of several reputed journals. He has authored Biological Systems Engineering (Oxford Univ Press) and a lot of research articles and reviews related in biotechnology. He is a member of the society of biotechnology, Japan, the pharmaceutical society of Japan, the chemical society of Japan.

Dr.-Ing. Johannes Bader was born in Regensburg, Germany in 1976.After the completion of the study of Biotechnology in 2004 he achieved the degree Master of Science in Biotechnology at the University of Applied Sciences Berlin in 2006. In 2008 he obtained his PhD degree at the TechnischeUniversitätBerlin, Germany.He is teaching students of the subjects biotechnology, brewing technology and food technology at the University of Technology Berlin. Furthermore, he is deputy head of the Research Institute for Microbiology at the Versuchs- und LehranstaltfürBrauerei in Berlin (VLB) E.V. In 2010 he worked as a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA. His research topics comprise up- and downstream processing of microorganisms in food biotechnology and white biotechnology.

Dr. Liu received PhD degree in Plant Molecular Genetics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1994.  Her postdoctoral research focused in biotechnology and genetic engineering. Dr. Liu has been a research molecular biologist at USDA-ARS-NCAUR since 2002. Dr. Liu’s current work focuses on microbial fermentations of various biomass hydrolysates and genetic manipulations of Gram-positive bacteria for conversion of biomass to biofuels and value-added products. Dr. Liu has authored and coauthored more than 51 peer reviewed publications and 12 invited presentations. Dr. Liu has authored and co-authored 4 invited book chapters, one US patent. Dr. Liu served as ad-hoc proposal reviewer for several organizations and also served as Merit Review Panel for DOE bioenergy related proposals. Dr. Liu also served as reviewer of numerous peer-reviewed journals in the area of biotechnology, molecular biology and genetic engineering; she serves as editorial board member for the Journal of Petroleum & Environmental Biotechnology.

Badal Saha is a Lead Scientist, Bioenergy Research Unit, National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research, USDA-ARS, Peoria, IL.  He was previously Research Scientist, Michigan Biotechnology Institute.  Dr. Saha did a postdoctoral research at the University of Maryland after earning his M.S. (1981) and PhD (1984) degrees in Microbial Technology from Kyushu University.  Dr. Saha has over 30 years of research experience in aerobic and anaerobic fermentation technology and industrial enzymology.  He has authored 160 research publications that include book chapters, review articles and 9 patents; and has given 90 meeting presentations and 45 invited seminars. Dr. Saha has edited 4 books, organized/chaired 30 symposiums/sessions and served in the Program/Scientific Advisory Committees of numerous national/international meetings. Currently, he serves on the Editorial Board of 14 journals and previously served as an Editor of Process Biochemistry. Dr. Saha has served as President of the Society for Industrial Microbiology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.

Yanli Chen is currently a research assistant at the Department of Chemical Engineering in Auburn University. She has worked extensively in various research fields, such as systems biology, fermentation engineering, sustainable energy development, microfibrous materials manufacturing, catalyst development, and air filtration. Ms. Chen has written and published 8 papers in peer-reviewed journals. She has given several oral and poster presentations on different conferences. She is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Golden Key International Honour Society, the American Chemical Society and the Society of Women Engineering.  Yanli Chen earned her M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston in 2006, her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Northwest University, Xi’an, China in 2000. From 2000 to 2004, she worked as a research scientist at Innovation Group of Green Process and Engineering at Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Manoj Agrawal was born in the historical city of Patna located at the banks of mighty Ganges in the fertile northern plains of India. He was passionate about maths and science since his childhood and hence chose the engineering profession. He received his undergraduate education in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM). After graduation, he worked for two years as an automobile engineer for Tata Motors in India. Later, he received doctorate in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Georgia Tech. Currently, he is working as a process engineer with Intel Corporation. In his free time, he likes to read or browse about Indian history and culture; travel; and volunteer for community service.

Dr. Manoj Agrawal is an enthusiast about biomolecular engineering. He analyzes metabolic pathways of microbes such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Escherichia coli, and Zymomonas Mobilis. His research involves association of enzymes to their encoding genes and tuning of biochemical reactions in bacteria through genetic engineering. His PhD project aimed at metabolic engineering of Z. mobilis for improved production of ethanol from lignocellulosic hydrolysates using tools of biotechnology and chemical reaction engineering.

Dr. Aneli M. Barbosa held an Associate Professorship in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL), in the state of Paraná, Brazil, from 1982 until 2010, when she retired. She is now a Research Scientist at the Biorefining Research Institute (BRI) at Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada). Dr Barbosa graduated in Pharmacy and Biochemistry from UEL in 1978, then performed Masters (1984) and Doctorate (1992) degrees in Biochemistry at the Universidade Federal do Paraná (Curitiba, Brazil). She spent post-doc terms at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, (1994-1995) studying enzymes involved in the degradation of aromatic and xenobiotic compounds; and Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Ciudad Real, Spain (2007), on yeast beta-glucosidases and their roles in wine oenology. In 2009, Dr. Barbosa was Visiting Scientist resident at the BRI (Lakehead University) studying enzymes from Boreal Forest wood-decay fungi and their applications in biorefining processes. During her activities at UEL, Dr. Barbosa supervised more than 80 students (under-graduate and post-graduate) on thesis projects. Her published research (60 research and 220 conference papers, one book and 4 book chapters), and hold 3 patents on botryosphaeran. 

 

Aneli Barbosa  research interest focuses in applied biochemistry and microbiology on the production of microbial enzymes (xylanases, laccases, beta-glucanases, lipases, beta-glucosidases) and fungal exopolysaccharides (botryosphaeran). Her other research interests include enzyme and fermentation technology, polysaccharide chemistry, applications of fungal enzymes in biorefining processes and biotechnology.
 

Dr. Robert FH Dekker is Director of the Biorefining Research Institute at Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada), and Senior Ontario Research Chair in Biorefining Research. He holds Adjunct Professorships at Lakehead University in the Dept. of Biology and Dept. of Chemistry (Faculty of Science) and Faculty of Natural Resource Management. Dr. Dekker graduated with Honours in Biochemistry in 1969 from the University of Western Australia (Perth). He then moved to the tropical city of Townsville (Queensland, Australia), where he graduated with a Masters (1972) and PhD (1975) degrees in Microbial Biochemistry/Enzymology/Carbohydrate Chemistry from James Cook University. A two-year post-doctoral term was spent at Albert-Ludwig University of Freiburg in Germany (1975-76) where he studied the biosynthesis of bacterial cell-wall polysaccharides. In 1976, he worked in academia at the University of Natal (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) teaching Biochemistry, and returned to Australia in 1980, where he worked with Australian industry (Sydney) in Biotechnology (1980-81). In 1982, Dr. Dekker joined the CSIRO of Australia (Melbourne) to develop a program of research on plant biomass conversion (now referred to as biorefining). It was at the CSIRO that he developed the steam explosion technology as pretreatment for the enzymatic saccharification of lignocellulosic materials. Upon termination of the program in 1990, Dr. Dekker worked at various academic centers around the world (Murdoch University, 1993-96; Universidade Estadual de Londrina (Brazil), 1999-2002 and 2004-2006; Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Ciudad Real, Spain), 2006-2008) before taking up his present position at Lakehead University in Canada. Dr. Dekker has spent more than 40 years in research (academia, government and industry). He has held Visiting Professorships in Australia, Brasil, Chile, France, Spain and Turkey, has consulted for Australian industry on biotechnology and the United Nations (United Nations Development Fund in Chile, 1982). He is the author of 100 research and review publications, has presented 200 research papers at scientific meetings; national and international, and holds 3 patents on botryosphaeran.

Dr. Giorgio Giraffa born at Milano and living at Gorle (BG), via Marconi 1/C. Degree in Food Science and Technology, University of Milano (Italy). Post-doctoral specialization on Biotechnology at the University of Milano (Italy). Since 1998: contract professor on Dairy Microbiology, University of Pisa, Italy. Stages carried out abroad at INRA (France), Pasteur Institute (Paris, France) and NIZO (The Netherlands) for overall 12 months. His present qualification and professional competences: Director of the Research Centre for Forage and Dairy Productions (CRA-FLC) of Lodi. Belonging to several Editorial Boards of international journals. His main expertise include dairy microbiology, food biotechnology. He is experienced in molecular methods such as probe hybridization, RAPD-PCR, species-specific PCR, RFLP techniques, LH-PCR and DNA sequencing for routinely identification and characterization of isolates. He is author of more than 200 printed works, a half of which on international journals with medium-high impact factor, and speeches at national and international congresses.

Philippe Oger is a senior Scientist of the French National Scientific Research Center (CNRS) working in Lyon. He is a trained agronomist and received his PhD degree from the University of Paris XI in 1995 working on the metabolic interactions between transgenic plants and the soil microbes. The following four years he studied the co-evolution of the metabolism in a host-pathogen system. He has joined the CNRS in 2000 and is now leading a group working on the metabolism of microbes in the deep-biosphere, with an emphasis on adaptation to environmental constraints and mineral alteration in procaryotes, and applications in novel energies sources for the future.

Dr . Munish Puri  research includes  protein biotechnology which includes protein chemistry, enzyme technology and bio-processing. The major goals of my laboratory are to produce and purify novel therapeutic proteins/ enzymes from variety of sources (microbes, animal and plant cell) and to improve their functional efficiency, specific activity for carrying out transformations of flavonoid/ pharmaceutical intermediates/animal cell product with health benefits. We follow molecular biology, bio-processing and protein engineering approaches for enhancing the efficiency of various enzymes (few eg: rhamnosidases, aspartase, inulinase, proteases, etc)/ proteins (ribosome inactivating proteins, macrophage proteins etc) with therapeutic benefits. We are also working on the biophysical characterization and crystallization of novel proteins to evaluate rigidity of 3D structure which is of paramount importance in immobilization and also for assigning new function to proteins.

Currently, she is working as Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology in Catholic University of Pernambuco, Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. However, She is linking to post-graduation course in Biological Sciences in Federal University of Pernambuco,Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. She has successfully completed his Administrative responsibilities as vice-Director in Biological Sciences Center in Federal University of Pernambuco. Dr Charles U. Ugwu undergraduate thesis was focused isolation of pathogenic fungi from tobacco. His masters and graduate works were centered on development of photobioreactors for microalgae cultures, as well as operation of fermentation processes for production of useful metabolites (supervised by Professors Hideo Tanaka and James C. Ogbonna). He did my first postdoctoral studies at the University of Florence in Italy (under supervision by Prof. Mario Tredici). He also conducted my postdoctoral studies at the University of Tsukuba, Japan from 2005 to 2007 (supervised by Prof. Hideki Aoyagi). In course of my research stay in the University of Tsukuba, He worked with Dr. Yutaka Tokiwa (distinguished scientist in biopolymer researches), who co-supervised my work at AIST Tsukuba, Japan. Afterwards, He worked for DIC Lifetec Co. Ltd (a company which embarks on commercial production of Spirulina) from 2007 to 2009. He had been working with Okinawa Industrial Technology Center since 2009 as a senior researcher.

Dr. A. Manteca obtained the Biology degree from the University of Oviedo in 2000 and a PhD-degree in Microbiology, in 2005. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of Southern Denmark, working in quantitative mass spectrometry, he returned to the University of Oviedo as a postdoctoral researcher in 2011. The main research line of Dr. Manteca is focused in the study of Streptomyces biology and differentiation. Streptomyces is a gram positive bacterium characterized by a complex developmental cycle, which is the evolutionary origin of some of the eukaryiotic signalling protein domains (apoptotic ATPases, kinases, caspases, nucleases, etc.). In addition, it is a very important industrial bacterium producing around two thirds of clinically relevant secondary metabolites. A. Manteca was pioneer in the application of new experimental methods to the analysis of Streptomyces biology. Dr. Manteca has published more than 26 works in the most important microbiological and proteomic journals.

Panagiotis Kandylis received his BSc in Chemistry (2003), his degree in Oenology (2010) and his PhD (2009) degree in Chemistry from University of Patras. He also received his MSc in Food Biotechnology (2005) from the University of Ulster, U.K. The above mentioned degrees were focused in fermentation technology and especially the production of cheese, wine and other fermented food products. He has published 11 research articles in peer reviewed journals, 2 book chapters and has presented 11 papers in international and national conferences. He is member of the Food Biotechnology Group of the Department of Chemistry that specializes on fermentation technology (submerged & solid state), fermented food production, agro-industrial waste utilization, and industrial bioreactor design.

Dr. Papanikolaou is Senior Lecturer in “Food Biotechnology – Bioprocesses”. He has graduated from the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) on September 1993. His post-graduate studies have been conducted on the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine – Ι.N.P.L. in Nancy – France. He has awarded the following degrees: 1994: Diplôme Etudes Approfondies (D.E.A.). Specialization: "Biotechnologies et Industries Alimentaires". 1995: Diplôme de Thèse "Biotechnologies et Industries Alimentaires", Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique C.N.R.S.. Specialization: Industrial Fermentations.1998: Doctorat Ι.N.P.L., Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique C.N.R.S.. Specialization: Microbial Biochemistry and Biotechnology. From October 2000 to February 2002 he has worked as post-doctoral researcher in the AUA, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Laboratory of General & Agricultural Microbiology and as temporary Assistant Professor (non-permanent) in the Technical and Educational Institute (TEI) of Kalamata. From January 2002 to January 2004 he worked as Agricultural Engineer in the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) and as temporary Lecturer in the AUA, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Laboratory of General & Agricultural Microbiology. From February 2004 until April 2009 he was Lecturer and from April 2009 up to-date he is Senior Lecturer in the AUA and Department of Food Science & Technology, Laboratory of Food Microbiology & Biotechnology, in the field of “Food Biotechnology – Bioprocesses”. He lectures in graduate and post-graduate courses “Principles of Food Biotechnology”, “Treatment of residues and wastes of Food Industry” and “Industrial Fermentations”. Dr. Papanikolaou has participated (or participates) in 11 scientific grants, and has published 40 research publications in peer reviewed journals, 2 review articles in peer reviewed journals and 5 book chapters. He is also referee in various international scientific journals in the fields of Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology (>100 invitations).

 

Papanikolaou Seraphim research interest includes in Microbial Biochemistry and Biotechnology,  Food Science & Technology, Food Microbiology & Biotechnology, Fermentation Biotechnology; Kinetics and Biochemistry of accumulation and degradation of storage lipids by molds and yeasts; Biotechnological valorization of agro-industrial wastes and residues; Production of microbial metabolic products (microbial lipids, citric acid, 1,3-propanediol, enzymes).

 

Marta Kisielewska was born in Olsztyn, Poland in 1976. She grew up there and attended the University of Warmia and Mazury. In 2001 she achieved a master degree in Environmental Science. Hereafter she was Ph.D Student at the University and started researches concerning anaerobic digestion technologies for industrial wastewater treatment.  She got a doctor degree in 2005 by defending her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Improving technological effectiveness of anaerobic dairy wastewater treatment in UASB reactors”. She started her professional career in 2006 as Provincial Inspector in Environmental Protection and Agriculture Department in Voivod of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, but her interests have taken her back to the University (in 2006). She obtained the post in Department of Environmental Protection Engineering as technical support specialist of anaerobic processes. Since then she has gained ministerial funds for investigations referring to renewable energy production by anaerobic digestion of dairy waste and wastewater. Results of her researches are published in branch magazines and journals.
 

Marta Kisielewska- Research Interest includes Anaerobic Fermentation, Food Processing Wastewater Treatment, Whey Permeate,Renewable Energy, Biohydrogen Production, Dark Fermentation, Bioethanol Fermentation and Biogas.
 

Dr. Verónica Leticia Colin has received her PhD from the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. Currently,  she is am performing a Post-Doctoral research at PROIMI under the guidance of Dr. Carlos Abate. He /she has authored  research articles & books.

Dr. Grzegorz Kłosowski is an graduate (1990) of the present University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz (Poland), Faculty of Agriculture and Biotechnology. He began the scientific career with the position of the assistant and then assistant professor in Institute Of Agricultural And Food Biotechnology in Warsaw (1990-2005). He got a doctor′s degree in 2003 at West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin (Poland), Faculty Of Chemical Engineering. From 2005 he is an academic lecturer and researcher at Kazimierz Wielki University in  Bydgoszcz (UKW), Faculty of Natural Sciences. At present he is performing a function of Vice-Director of Institute of Experimental Biology (UKW) as well as head of Department of Biotechnology. He is an author and co-author of numerous publications in the field of white biotechnology (especially technology of the alcoholic fermentation) in national and international journals (BITE, EMT, JBB, JOFE ), speeches and announcements on conferences and patents. Reviewer in FUPROC, PRBI, BITE (Elsevier).
 

Grzegorz Kłosowski research interest include Optimization of bioethanol production technology from starchy raw materials (improvement of the ethanol productivity, costs reduction, energy saving). Improvement of  the technological methods used for the enzymatic degradation of polysaccharides. Impact of raw materials contamination and quality on fermentation yield and formation of alcoholic fermentation volatile by-products (quality of raw spirit and alcoholic beverages). Screening and selection strategies of degrading cellulose filamentous fungi. Characterization, purification and concentration of cellulose degrading complexes of enzymes obtained from filamentous fungi.
 

Dr. Arbakariya B. Ariff is currently a Professor at the Department of Bioprocess Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He was born in 9 September 1961. His field of specialization is Fermentation and Bioprocess Technology. Since 1987, he has involved with many research programmes and examples of them were;  (a) Production of organic acids (kojic acid, lactic acid and citric acid) of enzymes (cellulase, glucoamylase, lipase, pullulanase, CGTase  and α-amylase) by fermentation process using bacteria and fungus, wild and recombinant strain (b) Design of impellers for shear sensitive biological system such as plant cells and algae, (c) Biosorption of heavy metals by microbial biomass, (d) Isolation and characterization of microorganisms from petroleum reservoir, (e) Saccharification of lignocellulosic materials to fermentable sugars, (f) Large scale cultivation of probiotic microorganisms for human and aquaculture, (g) Direct fermentation of sago starch to solvent (acetone, butanol and ethanol) by C. acetobutylicum, (h) Optimization of bioprocess using statistical approach such as response surface methodology and aritificial neural network, and (i) Development of biomanufacturing process for production of pharmaceuticals such as interferon and epidermic growth factor.  He is actively involves in postgraduate studies program. To date, more than 20 PhD and 51 MSc students have been graduated under his supervision. He has published more than 165 papers in refereed journal. His experience and expertise were sought after by the scientific communities and he was responsible in setting-up Fermentation Technology Unit, at Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia in 1999, which involved in research and development, contract production and training.

Dr. Noura El-Ahmady El-Naggar is a microbiologist. She completed her PhD in microbiology from Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Mansoura University, Egypt, 1998. She completed her M.Sc. in microbiology from Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Mansoura University, Egypt, 1993. She is presently employed as Researcher (assistant professor) in Bioprocess Development Department, City for Scientific Research and Technology Application, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Institute, New Borg Al-Arab city, Alexandria, Egypt. She acts as a reviewer of the journal “Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology”. Member of the "Egyptian Society of Applied Microbiology ". She is serving as an editorial board member for the Journal of Microbial & Biochemical Technology.
 

Dr. Noura El-Ahmady El-Naggar research interest include, Isolation and identification of bacteria belonging to Actinomycetes, the development of industrial process using different types of microorganisms. These include production of enzymes, organic acids, antibiotics, single cell oil and Bio-Fuel.
Extraction, purification and analysis of antibiotics produced by Actinomycetes,Purification of the enzymes and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

 

Dr. Tolga Tuncal has received his PhD in Environmental Engineering Department of Dokuz Eylül University during the period of 2001-2009. Currently he is working as lecturer and investigator in Namık Kemal University. He has successfully completed his Administrative responsibilities as chief process engineer in Water and Sewerage Administration. He has worked in several international large scale wastewater treatment plant design and construction projects with population equivalents of more than three million capita. Currently he is serving as a reviewer of several reputed journals like Water Research, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Environmental Progress and Sustainable Energy, Water Environment Research and Drying Technology etc. He has authored many research articles and books. He is a member of American Water Works Association group. He has honoured as the most successful investigator award in Namık Kemal University in 2010.

Tolga Tunçal research interest include Aerobic and Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment. Anaerobic Remediation and Biogas Production from Residual Biosolids. Treatment of Industrial Wastewaters by Advanced Oxidation Systems

Peter Orji Uvere joined the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as a Lecturer in 1993 and am currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Food Science and Technology. His University education started as a Microbiologist, but he had his PhD in Food Science and Technology. His research interest is in the application of malting and fermentation techniques in the processing of complementary foods, indigenous beverages in Nigeria and cassava.
 

Peter Orji Uvere research interest include Processing and evaluation of maize-cowpea and maize-bambara groundnut complementary foods. Processing and evaluation of indigenous beverages (burukutu and kunun zaki) Cassava and cassava chip conversion into abacha and gari; cassava waste recycling.
 

Dr. Reza Rastmanesh is currently an assistant professor in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics Department at SBMU.  He holds a PhD in Nutrition and three minors of Pharmacology, Immunology and Physiology from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, which he received in 2004.  In 1999 he became a counselor to Iranian Federation of Disabled Athletes, Iranian Sports Medicine Federation and Iranian Tennis Federation. He is also a member of Persian Academy of Language. He spent a sabbatical stay in Australian National University and studied beta cell apoptosis.

Ghassem Amoabediny received his Bachelor and Master degree in chemical engineering from university of Tehran. He got his PhD degree in Biochemical Engineering at RWTH-Aachen University and his Post-doctorate degree in nanobiotechnology at TU- Kaiserslautern. And now he is Vice President of Research in University of Tehran, Dean of Research Center of Life Science Engineering, Dean of Faculty of New Sciences and Technologies, Head of NanoBiotechnology Group, And also Faculty member of Chemical Engineering At the University of Tehran.

Dr. Nelson Pérez Guerra was graduated as a Chemical Engineer from the ISPJAE-University of Havana in Cuba in 1989. He started working as a Production Engineer at the Empresa de la Harina (Guantánamo) from 1989 to 1990 and then at the Empresa de Conservas Vegatales (Santiago de Cuba) in Cuba. From 1991 to 1996, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Process Engineering I and II at the University of Oriente (Santiago de Cuba). In 1996, he was awarded a scholarship by the Instituto de Cooperación Iberoamericana (ICI, Spain) to study for a PhD degree in Vigo University in Spain. He was graduated as a Doctor of Food and Technology Science on 1st October 1999. From 1999 to date, he worked as a Full Professor of Biochemistry at Vigo University.

Dr. Nelson Pérez Guerra research interest include Production of bacterial and fungal enzymes (amylases and proteases) from food wastes by using liquid and solid state fermentations.Batch and fed-batch production of bacteriocins by lactic acid bacteria, from food wastes. Production of probiotic cultures of lactic acid bacteria and their evaluation as feed additives for weaned piglets and poultries. Development of bioactive packaging using bacteriocins as biopreservative agent. Development of mathematical models to describe and control the growth and product formation (organic acids, bacteriocins) by lactic acid bacteria. Production and characterization of distilled alcoholic beverages obtained by solid-state fermentation of fruits of the forest.

 

Dr. Agnieszka Nowak has received his PhD in Technical University of Lodz  in 2002. Currently,  she is working as assistant professor in Institute of Fermentation Technology and Microbiology, Technical University of Lodz. She has authored 18 research articles and co-authored 2 books. She is a member of Polish Society of Food Technology.

Dr. Agnieszka Nowak research interest include Wine microbiology, synthesis of biogenic amines by microorganisms in food and wine, Brochothrix thermosphacta spoilage potential, novel food packaging method, shelf-life extension of meat and meat product. food law.

Dr Alina Kunicka-Styczynska has received her PhD in Technical University of Lodz (Poland) in 1996. Currently, she is working  in Institute of Fermentation Technology and Microbiology Technical University of Lodz. She is serving as an editorial member of  ACL and JBAPPN journals. She has authored 73 research articles and 13 chapters in books. She is a member of Polish Society of Microbiologists and a reviewer for several reputed journals like JAM, JAFC, BMC CAM, JSFA, PJM.

Alina Kunicka-Styczyńska research interest include industrial wine yeasts,wine yeast hybridization by classical genetics methods,new methods in microbiological analysis of food,essential oils and their components antimicrobial activity and application of essential oils in cosmetics, pharmacy and food

María del Prado García-Aparicio was born in Ciudad Real (Spain) on 15 December 1978.  She graduated with a BSc degree in Biology followed by a BSc Hons degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Alcalá de Henares (UAH), Madrid, Spain.  In 2007 she completed her PhD (cum laude) in the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology at UAH. Her PhD was carried out in the Biomass Unit of Ciemat (Research Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology) and framed within a European Union Project of the Fifth Framework Programme.  The thesis focused on the optimization of the enzymatic hydrolysis of steam-pretreated barley straw for bioethanol production.  Next, she was employed as a Graduate Researcher to compile a Technology Watch Report on Biorefineries for Genoma España Foundation.  María joined the Department of Process Engineering in June 2008 as a postdoctoral research fellow funded by Post Doc. Research Fellowships (National Research Foundation and Claude Leon Foundation).

García-Aparicio research interest include in different research projects related to the field of biomass conversion and utilisation of biomass resources for bioenergy production. The research has been focused particularly on the use of lignocellulosic biomass generated as residue from different sectors (agricultural and food industry) for production of bioethanol in an enzyme-based process.
