Dr. Michael Carter holds bachelors and masters degrees in nursing from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. His Doctor of Nursing Science degree is from Boston University and the Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Tennessee. He is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing; a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academies of Practice and a Diplomate in the American Board of Comprehensive Care. He completed a Fellowship in Primary Care Health Policy the United States Public Health Service. For 18 years Dr. Carter served as Dean and Professor at the College of Nursing, University of Tennessee Health Science Center where he is currently a University Distinguished Professor. He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Department of Geriatrics.
Primary research interests are in geriatrics including: Pain in elders, Dementia, Systems of care delivery for elders.
